with my daughters’ Brownie troop of second-graders. The directions
were simple and easy, and the results were beautiful— our favorite
craft of the year so far.

I o p e n your magazine and look for
the “Ideas: All About Color” section
first. Identifying whether a particu-
lar color should be used in broad or
small strokes has inspired me to try
colors I would have been wary of
in the past.

I n y o u r May issue’s “Guide to
Healthy Gardening,” you suggested
using cocoa bean mulch for its
chocolate aroma. I agree, it does
smell wonderful, but it can be
harmful to dogs. If you could draw
attention to this, I would greatly
appreciate it.
Amy Oliva, Warrenville, IL
Thanks for the reminder, Amy, and to
others who wrote with the same
concern. Gardeners with pets or who
have neighbors with pets should
consider a mulch other than cocoa
bean shells. Pets who eat enough of the
hulls can get sick in ways similar to
chocolate poisoning.
I ju s t w a n te d to thank you for
your very nice Web site
(BHG.com).
I
am a 61-year-old guy who loves to
garden and cook, and I look forward
to the wonderful recipes and tips.

B ra v o ! for the May issue. I found
so many interesting things to look at
and read a couple of times over.
Thank you.

R e a d in g “Bath Notebook” in the
May issue reminded me of my first
apartment bathroom when I couldn’t
find the right curtains. I decided to
use a set of towels w ith hoop clips.
Good to see some styles never go out
of fashion.

D a y s b e fo re the March issue
arrived, I received an unexpected
notice of a 35th high school class
reunion this summer. The “About
Face” article and accompanying quiz
literally saved my skin.
Victoria Paxton, Huntsville, AL
B e fo re re a d in g “About Face” and
taking the quiz, there were some
nights as a busy mom when I’d use a
baby wipe on my face before
collapsing into bed. After following
the advice and trying the products
mentioned for the low-maintenance
individual, my pores are smaller and
my skin has a slightly more even
tone. Thanks!
